Over a decade ago, this group of parents ended up working together to promote their kids' high school marching band. For a few years, it seemed (I think it was true) we lived together, worked together, played together. We laughed and cried and sweat and froze and were sleep deprived together. We bonded in a way that was unique to band parenting (my opinion, of course!). Once our kids moved on, we found we didn't want to lose our connection, and the idea of meeting for supper every month was born. Eventually we began bringing Christmas gifts in December for a family in need that the school system let us know about, and part of the Christmas Supper Club is all about wrapping these gifts. This year has been a rough one for many of us, and the club has not been able to meet regularly (and living out of town has meant I have not been in 3 years or more), but a big portion of the gang was there last night and we saw very clearly that the bond forged as parents wanting to support their children has turned into a solid friendship that is still supporting each other when needed. We are there for each other and that's a precious thing. We'd probably have never met each other had our kids not been in band together well over 10 years ago. And look at us now. Incredible. I love you guys!
I love the fact that you all stayed friends. It's great to see a pic finally of the band parent's I've heard about for so long.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have each other!
ReplyDeleteBeing part of this group has meant so much to us over the years! We may not make it every time they get together but when we do we have so much fun! It has been truly a great thing as we all age and many of us has felt their love and support as our children have married, grandchildren have been born or our parents or even our significant others have passed away. This picture is a true picture of FRIENDSHIP!
