Each year my church has a "blessing of the animals" service, where everyone brings their pets to receive a blessing. The pastors anoint them with oil and bless them. We have a short service, thanking God for the gift of animals and committing to care for them responsibly.
A rescue group brought a couple of puppies needing a home, and they were the sweetest puppies. This lady adopted one, and as the pastor prayed over the new relationship and blessed the puppy, M. cried and cried. I stood there taking pictures, tears running down my face. It all may sound so silly to those who are not animal lovers, but the love I saw on all fronts today was so moving.
